Terms of Service
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Skilled trades keep the world running. We built Carbyn to help your team capture expertise and work safer. These terms govern Carbyn AI, including the Carbyn app, whether you use it on your own or through your company. By using Carbyn, you agree to them.
1. What Carbyn is
Carbyn AI includes the Carbyn iPhone app, which turns spoken job reports into written notes you can edit and share, and tools for skilled trades teams. If you use Carbyn through your company, those tools include smart glasses integration, real-time guidance, knowledge capture, SOP generation, and compliance documentation. Carbyn is operated by Carbyn AI, Inc., the company providing the service.
2. How it works
In the personal app, start a recording session on your phone and describe the job. Carbyn uses AI services to write a note and answer questions you ask by saying “Hey Carbyn”. Review and edit the note before sharing it. If you use Carbyn through your company, technicians can wear Carbyn-enabled smart glasses while working. The system uses camera and microphone input to identify equipment, provide step-by-step guidance, flag safety hazards, and generate documentation automatically. Supervisors can view live feeds and annotate remotely.
3. Your account
You can use the personal app without signing up; it creates an anonymous user ID for your phone. Phone-number sign-up with a text verification code is optional. If you use Carbyn through your company, you need an organization account and its admins can manage members and access levels. You're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Carbyn. If you're setting up Carbyn for your company, you confirm you have authority to accept these terms on behalf of your organization.
4. Pricing and payment
The personal app is free to download and use, subject to free-note limits. You can join an optional Pro waitlist in Settings. If you use Carbyn through your company, pricing and payment terms are communicated through its early access program or service agreement. If and when we introduce paid plans, we will notify you in advance and provide clear pricing before any charges apply.
5. Your data and content
You own the content you and your team create through Carbyn: recordings, photos and notes, and, if you use Carbyn through your company, SOPs, compliance reports and training materials. We do not claim ownership of your data.
You grant us a limited license to process your data to provide Carbyn to you, including sending it to AI services as described in our Privacy Policy. “Improve Carbyn” is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, you also allow people at Carbyn to review some recordings and notes to improve the service. You can turn it off at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle data.
6. Your responsibilities
- Use Carbyn in accordance with applicable laws and workplace safety regulations.
- Tell people around you when you are recording, and get their consent where the law or your workplace requires it.
- Do not use Carbyn to record in areas where recording is prohibited or where individuals have not been informed.
- Do not reverse-engineer, copy, or redistribute the Carbyn platform.
- Report any security issues or unauthorized access to us promptly.
7. AI and safety
Carbyn uses AI to write notes and answer questions. AI notes and answers can contain mistakes; check them before sharing or relying on them. If you use Carbyn through your company, AI guidance may also use captured knowledge and manufacturer data. It is a decision-support tool, not a replacement for professional judgment. Technicians should always follow established safety procedures and applicable codes. Carbyn is not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated notes, answers or guidance.
8. Updates to the platform
We continuously improve Carbyn. We may add, change, or remove features. We'll give you advance notice of significant changes. If you use Carbyn through your company and a change materially reduces a service you pay for, you may cancel.
9. Limitation of liability
Carbyn is provided "as is." We do our best to keep things reliable, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Carbyn AI, Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Termination
You can stop using Carbyn at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You can delete your account in the app. In the personal app, open Settings, Profile, Delete account and confirm. Deletion and its limitations are described in our Privacy Policy. If you use Carbyn through your company, on termination your data remains available for export for 90 days, after which it is deleted.
11. Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of California. Any disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration in California, except where prohibited by law. You agree to attempt informal resolution before filing any formal claim.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll notify you of material changes in the app or on this page. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.
